My Year ; Highlight Reel

Last week, I drew the curtain on high school. These past four years have been a wild ride, and I wouldn’t change any of them. I am very grateful for my high school years, and as weird as it sounds, I’m going to miss it! I will say though, the best year was this past one; my senior year (cue High School Musical 3 soundtrack). I made some great friends and made some of the best memories of my life. So today, I am going to take a stroll down memory lane and reminisce on my senior year. Some of these days had nothing to do with school, but I’m still going to count it šŸ™‚ I don’t have pictures from each day I’m going to mention, but enjoy the ones I do have!

August 28, 2017 : It seems only fitting to begin with the first day of the year. To be honest I don’t really remember anything about this day except being very tired, but I’m sure I was at least somewhat excited to being my last year of high school.

October 27, 2017 : Toga Night! Now, if you know anything about me, you know that I don’t really know anything about football. It has never seemed interesting to me (sorry mom). But, Toga Night was senior night at football, and nearly the entire senior class was going, so I decided to make an effort to be more involved in the school events. It was fun! I went with a few close friends and we had a good time 😊

December 11, 2017 : Oh, choir. This was my last winter choir concert. Each year, I always loved the winter concert more than the spring, but this one was special for me. It was the first of two concerts with the ensemble that I worked hard to get into, and it was wonderful. My favorite from this concert was “Mary, Did You Know?” in case anyone was wondering ā˜ŗļø

February 9, 2018 : This day rocked. Me and a couple of other friends celebrated our friend Angelina’s birthday. We went and saw The Greatest Showman and ate some good food. I had a blast, and I still remember it has a happy day. These memories make me smile whenever I think about it. ā¤ļø

February 17, 2018 : This was my first “date”. I put ‘date’ in quotations because I still, to this day, am not sure whether the guy I went with thought it was a date. But nevertheless, this memory still makes me smile from ear to ear so I’m including it anyway. But we saw The Greatest Showman (I really like that movie, in case you couldn’t tell), and that was it. It was short “date”, but it put a smile on my face. Still does. 😊

March 23, 2018 : Girls Night! This night was awesome, all of it. Me and some friends went out and went bowling, started a tradition of going to Cookout, and ran into a bunch of people from school, which made us laugh. Everything about that night makes me happy. We weren’t celebrating anything, we just decided to spend some quality time with each other, and it was great.

img_3789March 30, 2018 : This day… I can’t even explain how happy this day made me. It started by my close friends surprising me at work for my birthday with balloons and cupcakes. Then, I got asked me to prom (even though I technically asked him first but I still loved the gesture). He brought me my favorite flavor shake from Cookout with the cutest sign ever. It was adorable. This day makes me so happy. It is one of my favorite days from my senior year.

April 14, 2018 : PROM! Gosh, I loved prom. It is the one day in my life where I can confidently say that I felt beautiful. My date and I had a nice dinner, got lost on the way there (it’s about the journey, right?), discovered that we both hate going uptown, and had a great time at prom.  Well, I can’t speak for him, but I hope he had a good time too! ā¤ļø

April 22, 2018 : This day kinda changed my life. This was the day that I attended my first youth group!! It was so much fun. I was invited to go by my friend Aubree, and I am so thankful for that, and her. She introduced me to this amazing community and lifestyle that I cannot wait to continue in college! Love you, Aub!šŸ’ž

May 19, June 2, & June 9, 2018 : Grad party season! I attended the grad parties of 3 people close to my heart: Angelina, Justin, and Aubree. Each party was very different, and I had a blast at all 3. They are all wonderful people with huge hearts, and I’m glad I was able to celebrate with them!

May 21 – 25, 2018 : Senior Week! I had a really great time during senior week. Even though I’m kinda lame and didn’t do all of the spirit days, I still enjoyed spending time with my friends, and celebrating the end of senior year.

May 22, 2018 : My last choir concert. This was a sad day. I loved every part of being in choir. Even though sometimes I wanted to scream and rip my hair out, I still loved being able to sing with others who shared the same passion I did. Choir will be missed.

June 6, 2018 : My last official day of high school. It was liberating. I finished all of my finals feeling pretty good, and I was so ready to get out of there. I didn’t really stop to think, “Wow, this is the last time I’ll be here as a student”, because in the moment I was just excited that I had finished high school.

June 13, 2018 : Graduation day! It had finally arrived. I was so excited, but graduation was very bittersweet for me (see my previous post). There were feelings of both excitement to finally be done with high school, but there were also feelings of sadness knowing that I would never see some of these people, friends, that I had met over the years. Knowing even my close friends, our time together was very limited. Even a week later I’m still struggling with these feelings, but I know that everything will work out the way it is meant to. If God intends for some people to stay in my life through college, they will.

June 16, 2018 : The last day on my list is my graduation party. This was probably my favorite day of all the days I’ve mentioned. All of my closest friends and family were there, and made the whole day special. It was a time for me to get closer with some, and to say goodbye to others. It had a feeling of finality, but it also made me very happy. The memories always put a smile on my face. Luckily my mom is very keen on getting pictures of everything, so I have physical reminders of that day that I can cherish forever (and go on the wall of my dorm room 😊).

So that’s it! That is my senior year in a nutshell. Overall, it was pretty great. I met some pretty great people and made some pretty great memories. Even though I still had my bad days, as everyone does, I choose to only focus on the good days, for the good days are the ones that I will remember forever.

Thank you to everyone who made this year special. You know who you are, and I am so thankful for having met all of you. You are all wonderful, and I wish amazing things for you in the future. Hopefully I’ll be seeing you ā¤ļø

Much Love,

Emily

Song of the Post: “A Million Dreams” from The Greatest Showman

Every single memory I have of this movie is a good one, and since I first saw it during this past year, I thought it was fitting. Plus this is my favorite song from the movie.

If you haven’t seen it, you’re seriously missing out. Go watchit!!

  1. Emily,
I am so thankful that you and Aub got so close this year. Being able to share her faith with someone is really important to her and she has been persecuted in the past because of it. Aub has so much fun with you and I hope you remain close when you are in college. ā¤ļø

    1. I am so thankful that God put Aub in my life! She has been a true blessing and I too hope that we stay close in college! I’m so glad that I can share my faith with her as well, and I hope she knows that I’m always here for her both emotionally and spiritually. She is a wonderful person and I’m so lucky to know her!! ā¤ļø
